Bushra Naseem

Abstract

Twenty first Century visual art has grown as an interdisciplinary field of study. Artists drawing inspiration from the diverse culture and history use multifaceted approaches to communicate. New technologies provide new opportunities and of course new challenges. A number of contemporary artists do not discriminate between art and craft and use traditional techniques of textile art to address current social and political issues. New generation of artists combines diverse procedures and work practices like crochet, weaving, hand stitch, loose thread and carpet used non textile materials in a desire to discover other new forms of textile art. There works are crossing the boundaries between textile and fine arts. This paper explores the significance of textile, and its creative practices. The paper also incorporates an analysis of the works of some artists.
